
But I smelt hot oil, and I heard an engine idling. I opened my eyes, and saw a fly-splattered grille, a bonnet, a windscreen, and very familiar faces waving out of the side windows.
“Howdy, Tone?”
“What’s he doing out there, Lee?”
“Being brave, Penny, my dear. Climb in, Tone.”
“We were told you might need a lift, by a man called Brown, Gordie Brown, The Chancellor.”
